Have you updated your Mac to Yosemite or are you thinking about it? Can't ignore the message announcing the availability of the FREE update? Well, but if you use music software and hardware it would be advisable to check their compatibility first. We took an irreverent tour of the major producers. Here they are in alphabetical order.

- The update is on November 25, 2014 - * we are checking daily

Ableton
fok

Live is compatible from 9.1.5, Max from 6.1.9 We tried 9.1.3 and it doesn't work. On the internet there are those who claim to have made v. 8, but we stick to what the house says and to common sense.

Audition works from v. CS6. The house doesn't say so but we tried it!

Allen & Health

Arthur

Arturia did not go out of her way to update, more or less she let Yosemite take its course.

We tried Analog Lab and it works… or at least it worked badly before and it works the same now (it crashes every now and then like in Mavericks).

V-Collection 3 has a fail during installation that can be resolved with a procedure described here

Apple
scratch

* update 11 November 2014 Logic Pro X… what do we talk about if Apple software is not compatible !! And instead…. Despite what the house declares, I must unfortunately report that on the Apple forum there are continually users who report problems in opening files previously saved in Yosemite, especially with midi audio sync. Incredible but true!

Update 25 November 2014

11.2.2 Protools and family finally updated!

Melodyne in all its versions works! An announcement reads “if you use Melodyne as a plugin check the compatibility of your Daw with Yosemite”, it seems fair to me.

Own labs
fok

EigenD software and drivers work without problems. We tested EigenD 2.0.74 and EigenHarp Pico.

Focusrite
fok

All compatible except RedNet. So green light for the Saffire, Scarlett, Forte, iTrak, VRM box, Midnight plugs, Liquid and Control series.

iZotope
scratch

Do-it-yourself updates: "There are no problems, if you have something to report please contact us ... but Shutter Edit works with OSX 10.9 if that's enough ..."

Line6
fok

Everything ok, no exceptions!

M-Audio

We noticed that most of the drivers have been updated in October 2014, but ... An announcement on the support page more or less says “we are working and when some product is compatible we will indicate it on the page Specification of the product". Apart from the fact that compatibility is indicated on the page Requirements and not Specifications, we have not found any products indicated as compatible.

Make Music
fok

  • Final 2014 - compatible
  • PrintMusic 2014 - compatible
  • NotePad 2014 - compatible

However, there are some small bugs reported on the site.

  • The zoom is slower.
  • When switching between some menus, the bar does not update correctly. Use Command + D to update it.
  • Java asks to be installed the first time the programs are started. Attention that you are asked to install the previous version of Java, v. 6 because Finale is not compatible with v. 7, but that's another story (Java 6 and 7 can still coexist on the same machine, don't worry)

Big house announcement! “We have worked with Apple to make our software compatible. So no problem! But ... we are working so that compatibility will soon reach 100% "(what are we now in percentage terms?)

Native instruments

Software and plugs work without problems. However, if you have hardware-dependent software such as Guitar Rig, Traktor, Komplete Kontrol, Maschine and Controller Edition and in the system you have drivers Avid installed (see above) the software will not start. "We are working with Avid to solve the problem"

Presonus

Roland

Here the list is long and complex and I refer you to This Page for details. One thing is for sure Rapture LE, SI-Drum Kit, and Cakewalk Sound Center will never work on Yosemite!

Sonnox

Downgrade When all goes wrong you can try the downgrade and go back to Mavericks. That's how.

  • Turn off the mac
  • Restart by holding down option+CMD+R (option is the Alt key). This function allows you to access "Internet recovery" instead of the classic local recovery partition. Mavericks will be downloadable again.

Curiosity

  • Yosemite is pronounced iosémiti.
  • Yosemite is an American national park.
  • Yosemite OS X v. 10.10 is not the tenth but the eleventh release because the first was 10.0, Cheetah (the cheetah), a matter of numbers.
  • In 2004 Steve Jobs typed the word Yosemite during Tiger's presentation as an example. Someone sees his long hand in it (others claim it is random).
