The Right Sound 10 - Audio Recording Tutorial - The Trumpet

Alfred Capozzi

After the Saxophone of the last episode, we remain in the brass family to talk about the Trumpet. Apparently a simple tool to handle during registration, but which nevertheless requires the knowledge of some intrinsic peculiarities.

The trumpet is an instrument with a very defined timbre. However over the last century, thanks to jazz monsters such as Armstrong, Becker, Davis, etc. we related to the instrument in different ways thanks to the possibility of applying mutes.
These add-ons, applied to the bell of the instrument, allow to make the trumpet timbre chameleonic.
In the video it is the task of Matteo Franza, jazz player and arranger of the Salerno hinterland, guide you by the hand among the different sound colors produced by the Trumpet.
The choice of microphones, on the other hand, is Pasquale Faggiano, producer and arranger al RecoaStudio, which makes you discover the timbres obtainable with two quality microphones: theAudio Technica 4050 (capacitor) compared with a Sennheiser 421 (dynamic). Obviously, nothing prevents you from experimenting with what you have available in the studio or at home. It is important that in all cases you take into account the technical indications found in the video, just so as not to risk damaging the microphones or the recording in general.
Showing in concrete terms the alternation of the two microphones is another of the gems that we must recognize, for timing, in this video production, which thanks to the RPM Editions set new quality levels for this type of tutorial.
To you, I hope, you just have to appreciate the "The Right Sound" of this episode.

Good music!
