Pigtronix Infinity 2 - looper pedal

Fabio Pesce

Pigtronix Infinity 2 looper packs a dual stereo loopstation into the space of a few centimeters. But let's see what it is.

First of all it is a double loopstation and not a 2 channel loopstation. This means that it is possible to record in a multilayer way on one channel or the other but not send them out together but only one at a time.

What is appreciated immediately is a very low latency, the cleaning, an rather intuitive system at least in the basic characteristics.

By clicking on the empty channel 1 you go to recording. With a long click you record by reserving the overdub at the end of the loop.

A click on the second track options the start in play or recording (if it is empty) at the end of the current loop. All perfectly timed.
A long click on empty channel XNUMX overdubs it at the end of the loop.
A click on the channel in play triggers the overdub at the end of the loop.

Knobs

  • Volume
It is the output volume of the loopstation
  • Decay
allows you to set a decay, a lowering of variable volume, on the recording. The decay works only in overdub.
A decay set to zero erases the track at the end of the loop and keeps only the current recording (and so on).
Intermediate decay values make the playing track fade, emphasizing the one being recorded.
Decay at maximum value keeps the recorded loop the new loop being recorded for an unlimited time.

Advanced features

Pedal 2 can be sacrificed in favor of additional functions such as:

  • once
interesting restart of the track on click with stop at the end of the loop. It can be useful to restart at any time or to create shutter entry effects
  • stop
reservation of the stop at the end of the loop or immediate stop if it is pressed again
  • octave
the track is lowered or raised by an octave while maintaining the playing time.
  • undo / redo
undo / redo the last recorded track. As long as there is no overdub the operation can repeat itself indefinitely

IN / OUT

  • Two inputs for two mono or one stereo inputs
  • Two outputs for stereo out or in wet / dry mode
    • Wet / dry
The system is set to stereo output. It is possible to set it in wet / dry mode to have output 2 for the loopstation and 1 for a dry instrument
  • Remote
allows the looper to be driven by a special pedal
  • USB
    for firmware update

What we like

It is small, manageable, the space of a guitar pedal. Plug & play, intuitive.

It is quite accurate. A structure verse on a channel e refrain on the other it is rather effective and simple to manage.

Delay is interesting for creating track exit and return systems with the main instrument. Obviously it is a pedal, the knob must still be turned by hand. Useful for creating delay effects.

Considering that it is not just a small loopstation but has more advanced functions that allow a broader perspective of the use of the product, the quality / price ratio is interesting.

What we don't like

In normal mode, in which both looper are enabled, a double click to stop the track is a bit complicated for the calculation of the stop time.

The cancellation of a track with a click followed by a long click involves the play of the track for a fraction of hundredths of a second, which however is audible. This is a problem in a live performance.

It is not possible to enter with multitrack recording whenever you want. Recording is optioned with a click and starts only at the end of the current track.

Advanced features sacrifice looper 2. Obvious with the purchase of an external pedal.
