Imagining a trio - vol. 1 "is a record born from the artistic imagination of Vincenzo Danise, who records it in pre-production alone and then prooffer it to the musicians who recorded it in the final version. It is a record that you can listen to with pleasure: a writing that is not particularly tortuous but which offers suggestive and refined sound settings in which the piano is king without falling into a “baroque” jazz.
The cd features six original songs interspersed with two Neapolitan classics arranged in a free jazz key.
Packaging with attention to the smallest details, "all b / w" cover to pay homage to the great passions for piano and pencil, production by Walex Tricot (which, together with Radar Records, holds the "Waltex Jazz Competition" of which Danise won the second edition ). The highly respected preface is by Enrico Rava, followed by Vincenzo De Gregorio: no savings on praiseworthy tones dedicated to the work, the artist and the musicians.
The first song - from which the cd takes its name - immediately leads us into the poetic setting that informs a little throughout the work, interspersing dreamy themes with rapid jazz scales, "the dream of perfect harmony", as the composer. In "Fire from the Mediterranean”Stefano Costanzo takes his place on the drums, with an enthralling opening and pressing notes intertwined in a sort of jazz tarantella, with sounds halfway between Spain and Naples. Then the notes merge into minor chords, the rhythm fades, a bit of melancholy pervades the piece, but it is momentary stuff, only a dormant ardor, like a dormant fire ready to reinvigorate itself at the first breath of wind. "Ares”Is the Greek god of war, a god to be wary of. We are not at all wary of the third track, however, with its variations of a sequence of minor chords, at times threatening and at times disturbing, with a sophisticated central interlude and a "in extremis" return to the main theme, enhanced by Stefano Costanzo's drums which increases its drama. "Mars"Is an interesting piece of eclectic conception, with rhythmic and harmonic changes rich in suggestion," a woman, a love, its contradictions ". The center of the cd features two arrangements of classic Neapolitan songs such as "'In Vucchella"and "The rumba of the scugnizzi ”, the first slow with a melody that can be glimpsed in the soft phrasing, the second rough with a more aggressive and rhythmic sound. "Santos"Is a piece by Costanzo (who continues to preside over the drums), yet you hardly notice the change of hand compared to the" Danisian concept "imprinted in the rest of the work: an elaborate and delicate rhythmic accompaniment that follows the tones of a serenade elegant and restless. "Good-bye"Sadly greets the listener, describing" the story of the hopes and fears contained in each detachment ", with some references - especially in the rhythm - to Pat Metheny of" The last train home "and a captivating ending with a South American flavor.

Vincenzo Danise that 2006 is affirmed at the Chicco Bettinardi Competition, new talents of Italian jazz, in which, in addition to winning the first prize by the jury, he also won the audience prize, since 2007 he has been playing with saxophonist Marco Zurzolo with whom he runs the world by exporting the Neapolitan tradition in a jazz key.
