Born from the collaboration between Eddie Kramer, sound engineering of undisputed international standing and the young Neapolitan entrepreneur / musician Francesco Sondelli, the F-Pedals propose themselves to the boundless ocean of guitar pedals with two products: the Edstortion and the Phazevibe.
Beyond the high-level tonal prerogatives, which will be analyzed shortly, the products F pedals they are the only pedals to use the new technology "wireless power". The power supply of these two gems, in fact, is activated only by the contact of the pedal with the native pedalboard, completely eliminating the clutter of cables and powerbanks. Although the possibility of using a standard 9 volts power supply remains active, the concept of “wireless power” is truly revolutionary for the world of guitar and bass effects.
Despite their small size, the two little ones were born at home F pedals they can boast a very high quality timbre. But let's proceed in order:
edstortion is a completely analog distortion that includes within its small chassis three different technologies for as many types of distortion. The pedal has a central potentiometer for controlling the distortion level, and two other smaller ones respectively for volume (level) and tone control.
A three-position switch allows you to select the type of distortion you want. Specifically, the first distortion is generated using i diodes, solution able to produce very compressed sounds and in some ways close to the sound of years 90, the sound remains distorted even at very low volumes and promotes considerable sustain. The second position, the central one, allows us to generate the distortion using a mini LED in the same way as one would use valve, but only at much lower voltages. The sound in this mode is less compressed and responds more faithfully to the dynamics of our playing. THE Germanium transistor are the masters for the third distortion mode: the sound becomes very vintage and immediately you are catapulted into the warmth and dynamic response of the old ones vintage amplifiers typical of vintage Blues.
In all its possible nuances, theedstortion it is deliberately little loaded in the frequency range that goes from 200 Hz to go down, and it is the same Eddie Kramer to explain this choice: <<...the reason è that of wanting to get a guitar sound downà ready for the mix, yeahà free that isè frequencies that a sound engineer would usually cut from the guitar when mixing!.
If the Edstortion left us favorably impressed, the real surprise was the Phazevibe. This small metallic gray box manages to bring out three excellent types of modulation phasing.
The chassis and the amount of controls available to us are the same as theedstortion: also in this case i two mini-potentiometers their core business is tone e general volume and the three-position switch allows us to jump from one phasing mode to another. The central potentiometer, on the other hand, plays a completely different but more important role than the other pedal. In addition to dealing with the modulation speed, in fact, through its stroke it allows us to control the timbre of each modulation.
Let's see it in detail:
la first mode it is that of an extremely modelable classic Phaser. By keeping the potentiometer within half of its stroke, in fact, we will be able to have a Phaser very close, in terms of tone, to the mythical 90 phase of MXR; just rotate the potentiometer to enter Classic Vibrato mode, the modulation frequency changes and with it the entire timbre, until it flows into the sounds leslie-ish of the last part of the range.
Even for the next two modes, the radical intervention of the central potentiometer allows us to generate sounds that were previously unthinkable for a stompbox of this size, just think of the typical sound of a Whoa combined with Phaser e vibrato for mode 2 and univibe so dear to our Kramer capable of evolving into something decidedly more modern for mode n.3.
In this sense, a scheme provided by the same comes to our aid F. Pedals accompanying its products, with which the parent company illustrates in detail the possible combinations.
The work of F pedals with this “Legend Series” it was truly phenomenal. We have heard that other new pedals are in production for what will be called “the pulse of rebellion”. We hope to be able to try them as soon as possible.
