From 9 to 11 July 2015The first edition of the Clarinet South Festival, a festival entirely dedicated to the clarinet, will be held in the setting of the Certosina Grancia di San Lorenzo in Sala Consilina.

The organization has a consolidated base with the Accademia Musicale del Vallo di Diano, former organizer of the "CM von Weber" European Clarinet Competition (competitionweber.eu) and the "Carlo Agresti" International Competition (concorsocarloagreste.it).

It is singular all this attention in a small area of southern Italy on a single instrument.

We ask this directly to the President of the Academy, M ° Tonino Angone.

T. Angone:academy1 The Academy is not new to this type of initiative. We hold annually, in the same structure, two international competitions and 4-5 highly specialized masterclasses dedicated to various instruments. The Vallo di Diano, of which Sala Consilina is the largest municipality, is at the center of various music conservatories, from Potenza, to Salerno, to Cosenza to Matera, so it is an excellent meeting point for musicians. The Music Academy of Vallo di Diano (amvallodidiano.it) it is in turn a great musical resource of the territory, available to anyone who wants to make music.

Age What kind of manifestation should we expect?

T. Angone There will be 3 intensive days of concerts, masterclasses and conferences held by great Italian clarinetists. academy2 The festival is open to musicians, visitors, onlookers, students, anyone who wants to learn more about the instrument. It will also be an important direct meeting point between clarinet and accessory manufacturers, distributors of brands related to the instrument, and end users. For those who decide to perform, they will do so by comparing themselves with record labels, industry professionals, conservatory teachers and music magazines.

We also speak with M ° Gaetano Falzarano, clarinet teacher at the Salerno Conservatory of Music, who was responsible for enriching the contents of the festival.

Age Tell us a little about the educational offer of the Festival

G. Falzarano There are not many possibilities in Italy to participate in a Festival that combines the characteristics of the Clarinet South Festival in a single event. Something like this is held in Madrid, but, in Italy, there is not a great choice for clarinet lovers. This is a bet not only entirely Italian but from southern Italy. The feedback is currently very positive, with interest from all over the world, including among exhibitors.

The proposed Masterclasses are all of a high level.academy3 We have Alessio Vicar - first clarinet at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo -, Guido Arbonelli - teacher at the conservatory of Adria -, Giovanni Punzi - first clarinet of'Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra -, Sauro Berti - Bass clarinet of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma.

Among the activities that will take place during the Festival, Antonio fraioli  - teacher of the Salerno Conservatory, musician and author - will hold a conference on “Benny Goodman” and will present the screening of the short film “Viola”; Sauro Berti will present the books “Twenty Studies for Bass Clarinet and Bassetto Horn” and “Tuning” - intonation exercises for wind instruments.
