It looks like the title of a song by Tiziano Ferro but the subject is many millions of kilometers away!
On November 12, 2014, after 10 years of travel, the Rosetta probe launched its lander Philae on the comet 67P / Churyumov-Gerasimenko. in other words we landed on a comet, a historical event compared to the landing of man on the moon! But perhaps you know this.
But that you may not know and that intrigued us audiophiles and musicians is that the how sings. As the probe approached, already at about 100km, a curious oscillation at low frequencies was noticed. In fact, the probe instruments have detected an oscillation between the 40 and 50 millihertz. The hypotheses were obviously among the most curious: from the alien predator on the comet to the captive spacecraft looking for help ...
None of this probably, the most plausible and least poetic explanation is that the sound is due to the neutral particles released by the comet colliding with other high-energy particles causing ionization. But the mystery remains.
These are oscillations at frequencies that are too low to be heard by the human ear, but if we increase them by 10.000 Hz here they reach the human audible range.
I don't know about you, but this solitary comet 67P, with a terrestrial probe hooked on its back, millions of kilometers from the earth, in the slow agony of dissolving into nothingness, which intones this sort of moan of the swan… it makes me a certain tenderness!
The result is however suggestive, worthy of attention: an irregular rhythmic pad with a sort of percussive set made of click, cowbells e noise which oscillates between different frequencies.
