| At the Massimo Bellini Theater in Catania, on 11 and 12 December 2021 the world premiere of the Stabat Mater written by the master John Sollima e Filippo arrives (author of the verses in Sicilian) for countertenor, choir, cello, theremin and orchestra. The occasion is one not to be missed, absolute premiere, with the orchestra of the Teatro Massimo Bellini conducted by Sollima, the choir directed by Louis Petrozziello , the countertenor Raffaele Pe and an unreleased theremin by Lina Gervasi. The subtitle of the Stabat, sung in Sicilian, is “Madunnuzza, Madunnuzza”. The event combines contemporary music with an ancient path dating back to Jacopone da Todi. Original music for original verses that collect from the ancient poetry of Jacopone only the image of the Madonna at the foot of the cross on which Christ was nailed. It is the pain of a mother that notes and words intertwine to underline. Sollima wanted to write the part of the theremin to add melancholy vocal assonances to the Stabat prayer, an experiment that makes us very curious and enthusiastic! |
