Strolling through Piano City Napoli 2013 we are curious about a concert for two pianos.
- Church of San Domenico Maggiore - Refectory Hall - 5 October 2013
The one held in the refectory hall of the church of San Domenico Maggiore in Naples, characterized by the 4 hands execution on 2 pianos by the pianists, is particular and interesting. Fausto Trucillo e Dora Dorti.
Musicians with extensive individual concert experience, have been collaborating since 2010 in twos and trio (together with Amelia Apples) to a formation that could perform a repertoire of great works written for two pianos as well as transcriptions of famous works.
The challenge of writing pieces for two pianos, with and without orchestra, has infected composers of all stature, from Mozart a Tchaikowski a Dukas a Rachmaninov, to name a few. It is the attempt to transform two timbrically identical instruments into a single instrument that is completed with one and the other, without redundant overlapping.
Each of the pianists selflessly yields part of their identity to feed a single homogeneous piano element.
The choice of the program is immediately pleasant and reveals a basic humor that gives the concert a touch of lightness and greater fluidity in listening.
From the irreverent Dance Macabre No. 40 of Saint Saens to the Nutcracker Suite di Tchaikowski (The Nutcracker Suite: Overture - Danses characteristiques - Valse dels Fleurs) to the witty The apprenti sorcier - L 'Sorcerer's Apprentice - by Paul Dukas, popularized in 1940 by Walt Disney from the animated film Fantasy fabric in which Mickey plays the part of the sorcerer's apprentice.
To bring the performance back to more canonical tones is there Suite no. 2 op. 17 di Sergei Rachmaninov - written in Italy among other things at the beginning of the XNUMXth century - which closes its four movements with a captivating one tarantella.
The concert is pleasant, well played without falling into technicality, it leaves room for more than a smile and an inevitable desire for an encore!
