On any Tuesday afternoon, Presonus drops the bomb: a brand new DAW!

Arriva Studio one 4, already available in the stores in its usual versions (Artist, Producer, Professional), also as an upgrade for those who already own the version 3 and as a crossgrade for those wishing to migrate to Studio One from another platform.

The brand is known for listening to its user base with extreme care, so much so that it gives absolute priority to the requests of the most voted users on the site http://answers.presonus.com

And it is precisely from there that some news comes.

THE NEWS':

Studio One 4 improves upon the workflow and the writing phase with fast and intuitive tools.

Sample One XT

The first vst undoubtedly the sampler receives a refresh, Sample One XT, also equipped with a new recording page for live sampling, as well as a number of tools to help sound designer and artists who work a lot with loops. A function of auto slice it recognizes transients in a precise and intuitive way, automatically mapping the different portions of the loop that can be played / remixed via MIDI. A series of options, including loop sustain, ping pong playback for a back and forth of the sample, modulations, gates and effects "borrowed" from the already known Presence XT, allows you to manipulate samples and loops with extreme speed.

ImpactXT

I producer of electronic music and hip hop will be satisfied by the new ImpactXT, also enormously improved. Just drag and drop a series of samples onto the instrument to have an instant mapping of the pads, now also colorable (to the delight of the owners of Machine). The tool is no longer limited to just 16 slots, adding another 7 switchable banks in addition to the one shown by default. The sample editing section is also enriched with many tempo sync and time stretching options that allow you to use Impact XT more easily when working with melodic elements and audio clips other than drum samples.

Patterns

From today, creating beats will be much more fun with the drum editor, featuring a new graphic layout that represents the rhythmic sequences in a more realistic way than the piano roll. The pattern option takes us back to the classic drum sequencers, integrating interesting twists such as the repeat function (now inevitable on the hi-hats of trap productions) or the possibility of introducing randomization. In the side menu it is possible to save different patterns (variations) to structure parts of the song and insert fills.

Studio One 4 - Song

Since the eye also wants its part, the new versions of Sample One and Impact will be customizable in colors. L'graphic appearance has been significantly improved: greater contrast and brightness to allow optimal viewing in both dark and well-lit environments, cleaner-looking mixer (ability to hide I / O) and organized, larger faders to easily interact with touch devices.

Studio One 4 also introduces the ripple editing (in version 3 it was possible to partially work around the problem by creating custom macros).

With the function of song data import you can import tracks and especially song info such as tempo tracks and markers from other projects.

From today we can write short notes both within the individual tracks and the entire song, a very useful option if you pass your project to third parties by adding information or want to write down ideas and changes to be resumed in a future session.

Chord Track

The most revolutionary novelty is certainly the chord tracks. The software is able to analyze MIDI and audio files (including stereo files of a complete song) and extract their harmonic progression which will be shown in a special bar called chord track. Doesn't the arrangement convince us? The incredible advantage of the chord track is that it allows us to edit and replace found chords with a couple of clicks. A great help for arrangers and songwriters!

Last but not least, Studio One 4 introduces for the first time theimport/ export of files .AAF. From now on it will be possible to exchange entire projects with DAWs which, like Pro Tools, support this type of file. This option will make life easier for those who work in the field of audio post production and need more communication with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere.

As for the price, the Italian distributor midi music does not disappoint (€359) reconfirming itself very affordable even in its Pro version, complete with any vst, fx plugin and loop library.

In the coming months we will discover all the potential of this fourth chapter of Studio One!
