A new reality appears in the world of modular studio systems. AMA, a very Italian company, which presented its first modular system and its innovative patchbay at MIR 2019 held in Rimini.
We do not yet have detailed information on the project, but from the information in our possession, we are faced with a system that unlike the standard 500 API Present on the market for years, it promises unprecedented versatility and ease of use.
In fact, the modules made by the Italian house are equipped with rear switches which allow the main system to recognize them both in series, thus creating a real one channel strip (e.g. preamp, eq, compressor etc. etc.), or in parallel mode thus creating a real adder.
The currently available frame is from 10 unit, but they are also formed by 24 e 32.
The extreme versatility of the product not only limits it to normal use in the studio, but with the help of the DANTE protocol, allows its use also in a live venue, guaranteeing the musician the possibility of creating his own listening mix with headphones.
WADA together with the hardware version, it also provides the relative plugin which guarantees a complete recall of each installed module, with its positioning within the 10 available slots.
In addition to the modular system mentioned above, AMA presented an innovative patchbay system, of which, one 10 × 10 present within the same modular system, while there is also a standalone 16 × 16 version. According to the company, this step was fundamental, as many studios are still stuck in fixed wiring in patchbay and therefore forced to a limited creativity. This new system allows the various processors wired in patchbay to "talk" to each other without the usual tangle of front cables that we know well, but simply by using a front panel that switches via relays. The audio path è totally passive and there is also the possibility in this case to have a remote control da PC\MAC so that the desired signal path can be memorized. Also within the same patch bay there is a memory bank, limited however to 32 presets.
AMA also allows you to request the 8 × 8 format or to expand the number of inputs and outputs using a special module.
