Clarinetists, oboists, saxophonists… anyone who uses reeds in their musical activity, knows, appreciates and fears their fragility. From the deep Italian south, from Sicily, Vincenzo Musarra, musician, clarinetist and experimenter of natural compounds extracted from his own land, promises not only a second life to the reeds but even a better life! But be careful, what in the rest of this article will seem to you partly esoteric and imaginative, is absolutely verifiable by hand, who takes up the challenge of the Master? (already used among other things by professional musicians of the La Scala theater and Conservatory of Santa Cecilia)
In fact, from the double love for music and for plants, the innovative and mysterious compound capable of giving the reeds such vitality as to finally make the sound of clarinets, oboes and saxophones prodigiously full, full-bodied and balanced.
This is what those who play reed instruments have always pursued like a chimera, without however being able to fully reach that coveted harmonic and timbral centering.
Musarra, after years of passionate dedication and experimentation, that mysterious alchemy that leads to euphony found it in Mother Nature and applied it to reed instruments, where the variables are so many and such as to make the path towards optimal and satisfying sound difficult.
"I am a clarinet player - Master Musarra explains -, but in life I have the privilege of being able to always be in contact with plants, surrounded by nature. I have treasured this and, from experiment to experiment, I have developed a plant extract capable of regenerating that precious piece of wood so important for those who play certain difficult instruments. In short, I trusted Nature and I trusted it, putting only a little intuition, a lot of patience and an inexhaustible love for music and sound ".
The mixture miraculous is called "regeneration”(Which read in Italian immediately gives an idea of its function regenerator-ance), checked, tested and regularly patented. A revitalizing lymph that nourishes the fiber of the reed, making it always ready, fluid, brilliant and proportionate, guaranteeing greater intonation hold and a constant balance in the various registers and passages in the octaves.
Musarra claims to have always followed the "culture of detail", in search of the "detail that makes the difference".
Following the same philosophy, the production of a small handicraft of barrels of precious woods (Vincenzo Musarra Tubi), patiently worked and selected, with innovative grooves and painstaking smoothing, always in search of "sound perfection". Particular is the Sicilian bitter orange wood barrel with twenty years of seasoning, which, according to those who tried it, gives "harmonic balance, timbre and color" to the sound.
The challenge has therefore been launched! Where is it? Maestro Musarra will be available for any product test - and much more - al Clarinet South Festival di Sala Consilina from 9 to 11 July 2015, grab your tools and charge!
