Audio Unit on iPad Pro

We had talked about it quietly in this one article a few weeks ago. Today they begin to glimpse the first concrete achievements.

I plugin format Audio unit, the format developed by Apple about a decade ago for its operating system OSX, starts to interface also with iOS, the operating system of iPad, iPhone and the like.

With the presentation of iOS 9, it was glimpsed that this operating system would also support the AU format, then nothing more was known about it.
Today, the preview of TempoRubato appeared on the net (Fig. 1), where you can clearly see the screenshot of iSEM ofArthur, the virtual emulative of historical synthesizers Oberheim, present in a screen of Garage Band on an iPad Pro.
Assuming that this is not a photomontage, it should be emphasized that the open sessions of iSEM are even two (top left corner) and that we are faced with a Garage Band partially redesigned to allow access to new features. The fact, then, that it appears on iPad Pro, arriving next November and including new and more powerful technologies, suggests that Apple is preparing for a further and substantial step forward in terms of its audio applications.
The deductions that can be drawn from it are many, but the fact is that the hypothesis of a consolidation of the technology could make the AU format levitate, and not a little, to the detriment of VST, RTAS ed Aax, given that the Software Houses would find themselves writing code only once to cover the entire professional fleet of Apple computers: in other words, two birds with one stone.
Again, the balance would shift even more towards Touch screen app, given that the integration between iOS DAWs and plug.ins would be better performing than audio communication systems, such as for example InterApp Audio o AudioBus.

Stay tuned!
