For a few hours, Steinberg has released a new and substantial update of Dorico. The new version 2.2 finally adds the possibility, expected by many, of the MIDI recording of the score.
With this new release, the development team, headed by Daniel Spreadbury, has finally added what was a required feature since Dorico's first release. MIDI Recording, of course, allows you to enter notes from the keyboard, speeding up writing completely, at least for the musicians. In the preferences, an entire section has been added to establish the criteria for this option, including the ability to "quantize" the writing of what is performed on the Master.
Trilli: even this embellishment, thanks to the algorithms of the basic code, benefits not only from the different variants in writing, but also from the possibility that the execution is affected by the duration, any resolutions, and the variants that have occurred over the centuries. work of various composers;
markers: there is the possibility to annotate the entire score with Markers (DS, DC, Jump, Coda, ...), with the obvious repetition of the sections and a dedicated page where you can establish the criteria for performance, including viewing with and without Time Code;
Tempo Track Import / Export: the features already says it all, but it is good to note that now, the Dorico timing can be set in Fixed or Variable mode. In this second case, the trend will suffer declines also as a result of slowing down or accelerating.
Jazz Articulation: already partially added with the release 2.0, with this new version the various specific ornaments and fonts have been enhanced, including the up / down glides on both the attack and the release of the notes;
Flow headings: valid for projects in which different work "Times / Movements" are foreseen (Flow), the way of writing Headings has been enhanced, so that the display can be consistent whether you are working on the entire project or on the single tool;
Tacets: complementary to the previous function, in an orchestral score, it allows you to add tacets for those instruments that require a lot of waiting bars;
Instrument Grouping: possibility to intervene in a targeted way on different instrumental groups and relative brackets that unite the category and the neighboring staves;
Music Symbols Editor: possibility not only to modify existing symbols, but also to create your own. Modern composers are satisfied! 😉
Various improvements have been made to different parts of the program: from the clefs, to the bar number, to the Alterations and Articulations, to the dynamic signs, now writable at the same time on different staves, to the fingering, etc. etc.
