Peppino Di Giugno, Italian genius

Umberto Sorbo

The book on Giuseppe di Giugno, written by prof. Alberto Giordano and published by the Esarmonia publishing house.

Di Giugno is a researcher and inventor of the first digital synthesizers for electronic music in real time.

Until today there was still no organic publication that would collect historical information together with the technical-scientific details of the machines invented by Di Giugno.

The book is the result of an accurate work of recovery and reorganization with in-depth studies on unpublished materials and historical data, supervised by Di Giugno himself, who made his private archive available.

Peppino Di June Book

The publication is a unique contribution of great interest to the entire community of musicians, students and technicians who deal with electroacoustic and computer music.

Inside we find a preface by Curtis Roads, followed by an introduction by Silvia Lanzalone and a historical note by Frances Marchesiello.

A first chapter on "Life, study and physics"And subsequent dedicated to the Neapolitan years at the University of Physics, at theICARM, IRIS e CEMAT extension.

Very interesting are the testimonies of the composers and collaborators of prof. Di Giugno: Gisella Bergeri, Nicholas Bernardini, Emmanuel Favreau, Eugene Guarino, Michelangelo Lupone, Sylviane Sapir, Alvise Vidolin.

In the book the birth of the 4X music processor, fruit of the ambition to design a "computer musical instrument”With characteristics of universality, independent of the process of technological development and the evolution of musical thought.

Peppino of June

The 4X was a great success among composers, both for performance and flexibility of use, it was used for the realization of various compositions, including the first version of Repons di Pierre Boulez since 1980.

Furthermore, the 4X, although born as digital processor for music, was appreciated by the industry for its characteristics and high performance, to the point of being used in flight simulators which at that time were not realistic enough as they did not have the ability to produce sound.

Arrangement of integrated circuits

I personally witnessed the final stages of the writing of the book (I refer you to my article fabiop139.sg-host.com/museo-del-synth-marchigiano) and with great emotion I can only recommend this book, which will make you understand how many modern musical technologies used today are the result of the inventions of Prof. Di Giugno.

Musician and Electronic Engineer. He began his musical studies with the piano and then studied the cello at the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella. He dedicated himself to chamber music. Over the years, he has performed in various ensembles and managed his own 20-member youth orchestra, with which he conducted around 80 concerts in five years, from Rome to southern Italy. This experience enriched his understanding of musical performance and orchestral management. As a composer, he has had the pleasure of creating soundtracks for films and music for art installations, enriching visual and multimedia projects with original and evocative scores. His expertise in music technologies has led to collaborations with major companies in the industry, where he has contributed to the development and refinement of several products. He is dedicated to exploring the synergy between creativity and artificial intelligence, examining how these technologies can interact and enrich the musical landscape.
